Under administrative direction, lead a database administration team by providing direction for daily activities, allocating staff for project assignment, and developing group and strategic direction. Provide technical, hands on assistance with the design, build, and management of database solutions that enhance mission-critical business strategies and operations, while ensuring high levels of quality. This is a working, hands-on leadership position that will split time between administrative management duties and hands-on technical activities.Essential Functions:Coordinate DBA activities and mentor teamProvide thought leadership responding to database outages in critical client-impacting situationsPlan and manage maintenance windowsLead/Perform script maintenance on existing monitoring scripts and automate everyday tasks with the teamLead/Design database backup and recovery plan and strategy based upon business data retention and data recovery specificationMonitor systems and proactively manage and maintain configurations to ensure performance, availability, and stabilityDevelopment of SQL procedures, triggers, views, functions, and reports to support enhancement to critical SQL-based business systemsAnalyze, troubleshoot, and remediate data integrity issuesReviews & recommendations for solutions that require the definition of databases' physical structure, functional capabilities, data security, data backup, and recovery specificationsLead/Performs scheduled backup, index defragmentation, and when necessary, restore operationsAnalyze system performance to plan for capacity management and scalabilityProvide database assistance and problem support to application developers, business analysts, and business usersConduct research and prepares recommendations for database tools, software, and/or hardware requirementsCommitment to embrace Sammons Financial Group Companies shared values (Respect, Accountability, Integrity, and Openness)As stated within the Company Attendance and Punctuality policy, regular attendance is required and expected in order to meet the business service levels and workflow demands.Qualifications:College Degree in the field of computer science, information science, management information systems preferredMinimum 12 years' IT related experience or the equivalent preferredMinimum 12 years' of Database Administration experience preferredExperience in managing a DBA teamExtensive knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server 2016 & 2017 (2019 a plus)Strong Microsoft SQL query optimization and index managementExpert performance troubleshooting skillsAble to implement Disaster Recovery methods3rd Party monitoring tools such as Quest Spotlight, Grafana, etc.Ability to review developer code to assure SQL best practices and to identify areas of inefficient query structuresOn-Call RotationUnderstands and uses normalization methods and design methodologiesUnderstanding of Scrum/Agile methodologies is preferredPossess relevant knowledge of data/database technologies outside of traditional RDBMS's systems such as: AWS Console Management, S3 Storage, Azure Database Services, and noSQL.Criminal background check required.
