About this role:Wells Fargo is seeking a Tax Director - US
Income Tax Reporting. In this role, you will report to the Global
Corporate Tax Executive and lead a team of approximately 20
individuals responsible for all aspects of US federal and state
income tax reporting. In addition, you will serve as a trusted
advisor to management on various aspects of corporate income tax
reporting. You and your team will support other areas in Corporate
Tax including the US federal and state tax controversy and planning
teams. Furthermore, you will help maintain and develop strategies
for compliance with internal control standards and ensure proper
risk management within the function.In this role, you will:
- Manage and develop a team of tax professionals with a focus on
delivering timely and accurate US federal and state tax filings and
calculations for accounting for income taxes
- Review and oversee preparation of US federal and state tax
returns with concentration on ensuring your team maintains proper
control standards
- Mentor, coach and properly direct a team to build their own
technical knowledge while delegating work appropriately throughout
the team to achieve this goal
- Identify opportunities and strategies for compliance and risk
management requirements for supported area and work with
stakeholders to implement key risk initiatives
- Provide strategic consultation to management through possession
of excellent communication skills
- Communicate best practices and procedures for proper internal
control activities in accordance with the company's internal
controls policies
- Manage allocation of people and financial resources to ensure
commitments are met and align with strategic business objectives
and priorities
- Develop and guide a culture of inclusion and talent development
to meet business objectives and strategies
- Provide technical interpretation on various matters and act as
a key change agent in building and adopting best practices within
the functional area
- Articulate impact of policy and tax accounting method changes
to management within the function or companywide
- Apply a broad and deep technical expertise on income taxation
in order to influence and provide direction to management on highly
sensitive situations or negotiations
- Lead implementation of some of the most complex projects and
initiatives impacting multiple lines of business or
companywide
- Collaborate with and influence all levels of professionals,
including peers and leadership
- Interact with external agencies, jurisdictional income tax
authorities and industry forums
- Support initiatives within the department including providing
needed information to key stakeholders as requiredRequired
Qualifications, US:
- 8+ years of Corporate Tax experience, or equivalent experience
demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work
experience, training, military experience, education
- 4+ years of Management experienceDesired Qualifications:
- Extremely strong and relevant Corporate Tax experience in a
management and leadership capacity
- 8+ years of experience overseeing and reviewing moderate to
complex US federal and state tax returns
- Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
- Bachelor's degree, as well as a Juris Doctorate (JD), Master of
Laws (LLM) or a Master's degree in Taxation
- Experience with Alteryx
- Banking and financial services income tax experience, including
knowledge with leasing activities, mark-to-market tax accounting,
and tax equity investments
- Extensive experience with US GAAP Accounting for Income
Taxes
- Understanding of US GAAP principles in the banking and
financial services industry
- Extensive experience in dealing with internal control standards
and experience in leading a team or developing strategies to adhere
to internal control standards
- Strong leadership abilities and possesses an enhanced attention
to detail while also being able to exercise judgement where
appropriate
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft
products
- Ability to work independently, with escalation to seek guidance
in complex and/or unusual situations
- Possess advanced analytical and tax technical skills
- Ability to exercise judgement in solving problems (tax
technical, operational, organizational) to ensure achievement of
business objectives and priorities
